Glass bottle shipments decline in Japan

According to the statistics of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, shipments of Japanese packaging glass bottles have been declining year after year, and shipments have decreased by one-third in the ten years from 1995 to 2005. Yamamura's plastic bottle company has more than 100 types of PET bottles and more than 200 bottle caps. Shiqi Glass Company has 950 employees. Its sales in 2004 and 2005 were 53.3 billion yuan and 53.2 billion yen respectively. In 2005, the net profit was 400 million yen. In addition to glass containers and food containers, Ishigaki's products also produce plastic containers and porcelain. The first glass company specializes in the production of glass bottles such as small and medium-sized medicine bottles, cosmetic bottles and food condiment bottles. It has 330 employees. Toyo Glass Co., Ltd. was established in 1957 and employs 1,060 people. Its sales in 2004 and 2005 were respectively 34.2 billion yen and 33.5 billion yen.

Although the application of glass bottles has decreased significantly, it is still quite popular. According to a survey conducted by the Japan Glass Bottle Association, glass bottles accounted for 73% of the surveyed people with a more noble sense, and this recognition of PET bottles and metal cans accounted for only 28% and 13%. Another example is 82% of respondents believe that glass bottles can better maintain the taste of food and beverages, PET bottles and metal cans accounted for only 23% and 13%. It is considered that 74% of the glass bottles are stored for a long time, and 22% and 46% for PET bottles and metal cans, respectively. It is believed that 56% of glass bottles have good hygienic properties, and 51% for PET bottles and 43% for metal cans.
