The raw materials used are basically the same as those of Perm agent, but there are differences in the degree of action. During perm, only some disulfide bonds are required to change to achieve the purpose of curling, while during depilation, complete destruction is required to make the hair completely removed.
Chemical depilants are divided into inorganic depilants and organic depilants.
1. Inorganic hair remover
The commonly used inorganic depilants are alkaline sulfides of metals such as sodium, potassium, calcium, barium and strontium. Among them, sodium and potassium salts are more irritating than barium and strontium salts, so they are less popular than the latter. However, due to the high pH value of such depilatory agent (pH = about 11-12), it has great irritation; In addition, sulfide is unstable, easy to decompose and produce hydrogen sulfide to escape and reduce its activity. At the same time, it also has unpleasant smell, so stabilizer must be added to these substances.
2. Organic hair removal
The commonly used organic depilatory agent is calcium mercaptoacetate (hsch2coo) 2ca, which is a white crystalline powder with slight sulfide odor. Its solubility in water is 7% at room temperature and 27% at 96 ℃, and the pH value of the aqueous solution is about 11. Compared with inorganic depilatory agents, although it has a slow effect, it has a mild stimulating effect on the skin, almost no odor, and it is easy to add fragrance.
In addition to calcium salts, lithium, sodium, magnesium and strontium salts of ryukylacetic acid also have the same effect.
