The Tour de France is in China, behind which is the rise of cycling in Asia

The cycling movement is setting off an upsurge in Asia, and people’s attention to famous events such as the Tour de France has further contributed to the warming of this wave.

According to survey data released by Nielsen Sports, the enthusiasm for cycling is increasing in Hong Kong, Japan, and China.

The International Bicycle Alliance (UCI) recently announced that the Road Bike World Tour officially settled in Guangxi, which will be held at the end of October this year.

At least in the next three years, fans will see the ring in Guangxi.

In the bicycle market surveyed by Nielsen, Hong Kong people’s interest in cycling has increased the most. In 2013, 39% of respondents expressed their preference for cycling, and today this proportion has increased to 48%.

After Japan, it is Japan. Since 2013, the proportion of bicycles in Japan has risen from 14% to 21%.

In the same period in China, the increase was 6%. The proportion in 2013 was 19%. Today, 25% of Chinese citizens express their interest in cycling.

"Rise of the middle class"

In addition to the road cycling World Tour to be held in Guangxi, the Tour de France, including professional careers and amateurs, will also enter China for the first time this year.

“As many events are settled here, we are witnessing the rapid rise of cycling in the region. This trend is particularly evident in China,” said Claude Ringuet, president of Nielsen Sports South East Asia and Greater China. Lange’s father was once a professional cyclist.

“The combination of multiple factors has contributed to the cycling boom that we are witnessing: the world's top bicycle brands have targeted this market and increased their investment, launching diversified activities; in addition, the rising middle class, official or not. The official investment in bicycle infrastructure and the introduction of important cycling events have become the driving force of this momentum."

“For those brands or owners who want to benefit from the mass frenzy of cycling, the public’s interest in and interest in cycling is undoubtedly a big plus.”

Regarding the degree of public interest in cycling, the United States, India, and Russia also rank among the top ten in the world.

Nielsen surveys 1,000 people between the ages of 16 and 69 every year in 33 bicycle markets around the world. Nielsen's investigation includes France, Italy and Spain, which are known as the “heart zone” of the cycling movement. The interest of the people in the three countries has been increased to varying degrees.
