At present, there are more than 100 million tons of new wastes in the world, of which the United States amounts to 2 billion tons, which accounts for 20% of the total amount of waste in the world. Faced with a surge in waste, various countries have adopted corresponding recovery and treatment policies on this issue. Packaging waste (including paper, metal, glass, and plastic packaging) is also a large household waste, accounting for two-thirds of the total waste. Therefore, the economically developed countries are vigorously developing the waste recycling industry. In 1990, the global waste recycling industry market scale was approximately US$10 billion, and by the year 2000, it had grown to US$300 billion. In the United States alone, waste paper recycling generates an annual revenue of US$20 billion. Therefore, economically developed countries pay great attention to the recycling and utilization of packaging when designing products, and have passed laws and regulations and corresponding measures for the recycling of packaging materials.
