New polymer delivers powerful power for electric speakers

Cabasse, a French manufacturer of ultra-high yield speaker systems, has now switched to VICTREX® PEEK® polymer to manufacture its latest professional speaker stand.

All parts around the movable unit in the 1,000 watt speaker must have excellent heat resistance because 97% of the power delivered by the amplifier is consumed in the form of heat. Traditionally, stents are made from phenolic resin coated cotton fabrics. However, the temperature in the coil area can be as high as 270°C. The monofilament wire VICTREX PEEK polymer has a very high melting point (343°C) and a continuous use temperature of up to 260°C (UL746B), thus providing the required high temperature performance of the Cabasse speaker.

Another important criterion for Cabasse's choice of materials is strength and fatigue resistance, because the guides, such as brackets, must be able to withstand large displacements. VICTREX PEEK polymer fabrics have the ideal combination of rigidity and yield elongation, and more importantly, have extremely high fatigue resistance.
