What is even more anxious is that there has not been a major breakthrough in technology and no cheap and effective alternatives have been found.

Judging from the results of the spot checks, although a few brand manufacturers have also reported “quality gates”, most of the unqualified products are from small enterprises and black workshops with backward technical equipment, aging production processes, and lack of scale management capabilities. Therefore, it is imperative to increase the supervision of counterfeit and shoddy products, especially to maintain the high pressure of "three no" products.

If anti-counterfeiting is a palliative treatment, then speeding up technological research and improving the regulatory mechanism is the cure.

China's mandatory national standards stipulate that the furniture industry must use E1 grade plates with formaldehyde emission ≤1.5mg/L, or E2 grade plates that must be surface treated to be used indoors with formaldehyde emission ≤5.0mg/L. Since May 2004, the state has implemented a production license system for 11 types of wood products such as plywood, particle board, oriented strand board, medium density fiberboard, blockboard, solid wood composite flooring, bamboo flooring, solid wood flooring and veneer.

The Yangtze River College, deputy director of the China Furniture Industry Association, pointed out that this has played a certain role in guaranteeing the quality of furniture from the material supply link. However, China does not specifically implement a production license system for furniture manufacturing enterprises, and it does not require export licenses when products are exported. This leads to lower entry barriers and uneven product quality.

Therefore, industry insiders have called for government departments to implement production and export license systems for the furniture industry as soon as possible, and to eliminate a number of manufacturers with quality and safety issues through supervision and enforcement; at the same time, excellent enterprises take the lead in strengthening industry self-discipline to enhance the overall industry.
