Some 3D printing products are toxic to fish
3D printing is a very hot new thing in recent years. However, a recent study by US researchers found that some commercial 3D printers print products that are toxic to some fish embryos, causing a large number of embryos to die. Researchers at the University of California, Riverside, said in a new issue of Environmental Science and Technology that they studied two common 3D printers, one that melts plastic and prints out parts; the other uses ultraviolet light to illuminate liquid materials. It is converted into a solid part. They used two 3D printers to make small plates of material, and then placed them in petri dishes with zebrafish embryos to observe embryo survival, hatching and development. It was found that the products printed by the two printers were toxic to the embryos of zebrafish, and the liquid 3D printer was more toxic. After zebrafish embryos were exposed to hot-melt plastic 3D printed materials, the survival rate decreased slightly, but the survival rate decreased significantly after exposure to liquid 3D printed materials. More than half of the embryos died within 3 days, and the rest died within 7 days. Very few Surviving" zebrafish embryos all have dysplasia. They also found that irradiating an object printed on a liquid printer with ultraviolet light for one hour can greatly reduce the toxicity of the printed product. The researchers called on the relevant departments to pay attention to the toxicity of 3D printing materials. Statistics show that the 3D printing market is growing rapidly.
