Cone is an indicator of the consistency and hardness of a grease. It refers to the depth of the cone falling into the specimen under specified load, time and temperature conditions. Its unit is expressed in 0.1 mm. The greater the cone penetration value, the softer the grease, and the harder it is.

The instrument for measuring the penetration is a cone penetration meter, and the measurement method is the national standard GB/T269-91, which is equivalent to the international standard ISO/DIS2173. It mainly detects the non-working penetration and working penetration of grease.

The cone penetration tester is mainly used for the determination of the viscosity of ointments and eye ointments. The design of the instrument complies with the requirements of the 2015 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia for the measurement of the cone penetration. It is equipped with three cones and three corresponding containers. The cone penetration meter realizes the automation of the measurement process, and the cone penetration measurement is more accurate, faster and more convenient.
