The inner tube (ie, the stroke tube) of the MTB forks (shock absorbers) we generally use is made of ordinary steel pipes or aluminum alloys (ie, magnesium alloys)! Outside the tube is coated with Teflon or nickel protective coating! (Ordinary steel tubes are electroplated coatings) to lubricate or protect the front fork. High-grade forks are generally plated with Teflon! FOX has newly developed KASHIMA coating (gold coating). Nickel-plated MARZOCCHI forks are mostly! Examples such as CORSAWC are no longer here. In short, all to improve the performance of the fork! Improve smooth lubrication! (Our biker's fork does not run smoothly but only refers to whether the smoothness of the fork is smooth)

MTB forks are designed to allow us to ride better! The function of the fork is actually to make our bike reduce the impact of outside and make the tire better grip! ! In short, the performance of a good bicycle reflects many aspects! But for the entire bike architecture! Fork I think should be ranked first! !
So how can we extend the life of our fork? The most basic is that the usual maintenance must be in place!
First: Keep your fork clean! Use clean, oil-free rags (preferably a lint-free towel, with clean water or soapy water) on every trip. I try to keep the water from flowing inside the fork. The car is turned upside down so as not to damage the oil seal and dust after the dust enters the water. After wiping the wet towel, wipe it with a dry wipe! This will soon be dry.) Wipe clean! Pay particular attention to the cleanliness of the inner tube and the dust seal! Clean up the dust to reduce the wear of the inner tube and dust! Otherwise, a long time, too much dust will accumulate in the inner tube and the more brighter it will be! Finally grinding away Teflon coating! Expose the aluminum inside! Performance will be greatly reduced!
Second: It is recommended to buy a fork boot. There are many things on Taobao! A few dollars can buy a pair! It's tens of dollars better. Clean the fork and fix the boot! This will be a good protection of your fork inner tube! It not only avoids hitting the inner tube by hard objects, but also avoids the intrusion of dust! Reduces your chance of cleaning dust!
Third: It is recommended to buy fork Teflon coating grease or lubricant! Taiwan's Caster silicone oil 300#60ml bottle! (Taobao sells a bottle of 25! Remember 300!) This is good! Can use for a long time! There is no harm to the inner tube, dust and oil seals. Very good water resistance and sealing performance, no any corrosion and expansion of rubber, nontoxic to human body, tannin oil is tasteless!
Because our front fork is doing reciprocating friction when working, the inner tube rubs against the dust seal! A long time will wear! Fork will appear oily, dry feeling! Run down! It will be late to wait for maintenance at this time!
So how do we use grease? Very simple! We first clean the fork inner tube and dust! Then touch a little lubricating oil at the junction of the dust and the inner tube! Apply a circle evenly! About two centimeters in height! Do not wipe too much! Then compress the fork several times! Finally put your front fork dust jacket, so it is OK! (Every time you ride, you can wipe it. After you return, clean it with a clean rag. No dust will not wipe it.) Add dust to the dust jacket! You must pay attention!
When our forks are bought in a car shop, they are generally warranted for about one year! If you normally ride a fork, problems rarely occur within one year! Wait until the problem occurs when your fork is also out of warranty! When you go for maintenance, you should also pay for yourself! Major maintenance includes fork internal replacement damping oil cleaning and replacement dust and oil seals. General car shop can't do this kind of maintenance! Have to send to an agent or a professional authorized service point maintenance! If you are riding a flat road, our fork will be maintained once a year and a half! Change the oil, clean the dust seal on OK!
Therefore, we usually do these basic maintenance is enough to extend the life of your fork! Do you remember the dust jacket?
These are some of the little common sense that I have summarized.
Avoid: prohibit the application of some machine oil, chain lubricants! These things can damage the dust seal of your fork.
