According to the British "Daily Mail" reported on April 2 , the "International Journal of Cardiology" published a new study by Brazilian scientists found that exercise in warm water has a therapeutic effect on hypertension, and can even help those who are treated with drugs. Researchers at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil conducted a five- year study of a group of refractory hypertension. These hypertensive patients have received at least 3 drug treatments, but the antihypertensive effect is minimal. The researchers asked half of the participants to undergo regular exercise, and the other half of the participants exercised 3 times a week in warm water at 32 degrees Celsius for 1 hour each time. Each warm water workout includes: 5 minutes warm-up exercise, 20 minutes water aerobics and 30 minutes of aerobic walking, and the last 5 minutes of cooling and relaxing stretching exercises. During the test, the participants continued to take antihypertensive drugs. After 12 weeks, the results of the comparative analysis found that the blood pressure of the participants in the Wenshui fitness group decreased by an average of 36/12 mm Hg. The study found that even if blood pressure is only reduced by 5/2 mm Hg, the risk of heart attack and stroke can be reduced by 14% . In contrast, patients in the regular exercise group had significantly higher blood pressure. The researchers pointed out that the water temperature during exercise is very critical. Many experiments conducted before have found that the water temperature reduction effect of 27 degrees Celsius is not ideal.

Scientists have pointed out that the mechanism of warming water to lower blood pressure may be that heat can expand blood vessels, improve blood flow in patients, and thus lower blood pressure. Dorian Maddock, a senior cardiologist at the British Heart Disease Foundation, pointed out that warm water fitness combined with drugs is valuable for the study of new treatments for hypertension. Whether 32 degrees Celsius is the best exercise water temperature is for further study.
