Sharp Toshiba's latest development of advanced sensors

Sharp claims to have developed a 6-megapixel CCD sensor with the same size as 4 million and 5 million pixel sensors; Toshiba will also develop more advanced sensors based on CMOS technology.
Sharp claims that the company uses smaller pixels to make the product. It can deliver 2,872 x 2,160-pixel images, which means that camera manufacturers can easily make higher-resolution cameras, and sensor samples will soon be put into use. Sharp said it will start mass production in 100,000 units per month in January 2004.
Toshiba has been working hard to develop more advanced sensors based on CMOS technology. Such sensors are generally considered inferior to CCDs, but Toshiba claims that its latest sensors are in many respects better or better than CCDs. Toshiba claims that there are two in gap leakage and surface layers. Some companies have made changes to create higher quality products. The new sensor model has 1.3 million pixels and produces SXGA resolution (1,280 × 1,024 pixels) images. The new sensor is said to have a 2 lux sensitivity at 5 frames per second, the same as the CCD. It consumes less power, consumes 150 milliwatts at 15 frames/second, about 1/4 of the CCD, and the company plans to award the megapixel CMOS sensor in 2004.
