As we all know, taste and smell are chemical sensations, and their stimulation is the result of biomolecular reactions. Scientific research shows that different positions of the tongue will produce sour, sweet, bitter, and salty taste effects, and the sense of smell is more sensitive, which can quickly smell nuanced odors, but the same nose is also prone to "fatigue". 1. Gas chromatography analysis

Air machine chromatographic analysis is widely used in the production of packaging materials using gravure printing. Gas chromatography analysis can objectively determine the content of residual solvents and other odors on printed packages. During gas chromatography analysis, the gas passes through a separation column and is measured by the detector. Even a small amount of gas can be detected. The flame ionization detector (FID) is its main detection tool. Connect the detector to a PC to record the time and the amount of gas leaving the separation column. By comparing with the known fluid chromatography, each free monomer can be identified. At the same time, by measuring and recording the peak area and comparing with the known volume, the content of each free monomer can be obtained. When investigating the situation of unknown monomers in folding cartons, gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (MS) are usually used together to identify unknown monomers by mass spectrometry. In gas chromatography analysis, the headspace analysis method is usually used to analyze the folding carton. The measured sample is placed in a sample vial and heated to vaporize the analyzed monomer and enter the headspace. 2. Robimson detection method

In the German standard DIN log55 "Influence of packaging materials on the taste of the test object", the Robinson test method is defined. For printing, people are concerned about the effect of solvent residues after ink printing. Therefore, printing companies usually use the improved Robinson test method (MHM) to achieve the purpose of detection.

During the detection process, the surface of the substrate is printed with 1.5% m2 of ink, and then the printed matter and the finished packaging, such as chocolate, are rotated for a certain time (about one day) and then the taste of the packaging is judged. The results are usually divided into 5th grade: No change in taste for 0th grade; 1st grade makes it difficult to discern the change in taste; 2nd grade has a slight change in taste; 3rd grade has a certain change in taste; 4th grade has a significant change in taste. Sometimes, some people test under actual environmental conditions, such as testing the carton at a high temperature of 75% RH. The result of this is usually quite different from the method specified in DIN log55.

The above two methods quantitatively test whether the effect of ink on the odor and taste of the packaging after printing is practical through practical means, thus providing a clear method for evaluating whether the carton packaging printing is environmentally friendly and safe. China's printing plants and corresponding departments can refer to advanced foreign testing methods and international standards to formulate testing methods and standards that are in line with international standards and conform to China's production conditions, thereby promoting the development of the printing industry.
